"The Upper East Side was like something from Fitzgerald or Thackeray: teenagers acting
like adults, adults acting like teenagers - guarding secrets, spreading gossip - all with
the trappings of truly opulent wealth. The membership in this community was so elite you
couldn't even buy your way in. It was a birthright - a birthright I didn't have & my greatest
achievements would never earn me. All I had to compare to this world was what I read in
books & that gave me the idea: if I wasn't born in this world, maybe, I could write myself into it.
I'd overheard enough conversations to be able mimic the language of the Constance girls,
but every writer needs his muse & it wasn't until that photo of Serena, in the white dress,
that I knew I had something strong enough to actually create a legend & launch a website.
Within weeks, I was getting dozens of emails with stories about Upper East Siders, so I
posted them anonymously & then, I got more. Before long, it was a monster. Everyone
was sending tips & when Serena came back from boarding school, I wrote the first post
about me - lonely boy, the outsider, the underdog. I might have been a joke, but at least
people were talking about me. "
2. Brooke/Lucas (ONE TREE HILL)
The ultimate story of boy meets girl. Boy breaks girl’s heart. Boy wins girl back. Boy gets raped by writers. I love Brooke & Lucas. They dealt with real issues that I think most couples in high school do (trust, games, bitterness, comfort) and they grew as characters together. Lucas became a better, stronger, and more likeable character because of Brooke. In S1 he was a confused boy, he didn’t know who he was or what he wanted. In S2 he really grew into himself and grew closer to the people that mattered to him, the most unexpected of those people being Brooke Davis. We got an entire year of build up between them and the pay off was perfect. Watching them fall apart after all the effort and love they’d put into that relationship was awful. I thought all Brooke would need was time and I thought Lucas would wait for her, but the writers re-wrote history (LITERALLY - there is no question in this) and changed everything. Anyway, this couple is a perfect example of journey > destination. Even after all this time they still have so many supporters.
